“FLYING MACHINE”
To create and build a flying machine inspired by birds/insects.
Materials: Cardboard cones, cardboard, wet strength brown paper, tissue paper, skewers, pva, hot glue, string, scissors and craft knife

Task 1: GENERATE 5 LESSONS + H/W

In your A4 Drawing Diary, you will need to collect images from magazines, internet and library. With pencil you will record details, shape, texture and include factual information about each image. Also analyse and draw special features eg. wings, body shape, legs, etc… Remember these drawings will be developed into your final sculpture.

Task 2 DEVELOP and SYNTHESISE 3 LESSONS +H/W
On 2 x A4 pages
Develop 4 quick ideas by synthesising (taking different parts) from your Task 1 drawings eg. wings of an Albatross, body of a wasp, with hot air balloon, and with 2 propellers.
Does it have any moveable parts? will it be a hanging sculpture?
Task 3 REGENERATE and REFINE 4 LESSONS + H/W
On 2-3 A4 pages
Select one or combine your ideas from Task 3 in order to clarify your idea
Ask questions…does it have the right shape? are the wings too long? does it need to be simplified? do you have any moveable parts? etc…
Task 4 PRODUCE 10-12 LESSONS
Materials: Use Cardboard cones, cardboard, wet strength brown paper, tissue paper, skewers, pva, hot glue, string, scissors and craft knife.
Break down your idea into parts and shape. This will allow you to see it in its’ basic form. Sketch this into your drawing diary to help you to visualise.
Produce separate parts first, this will make it more manageable. The size of your sculpture will not exceed 50cm x 50cm.
