LEVEL 1 STUDENT INFORMATION
Students will be expected to pay a course fee to cover the art materials being used in class.
**Students will be given a stationary list and will be expected to purchase their stationary as soon as possible.
· It is important that all information that is given to you is filed in your clear file. This includes tasks, assessment sheets, assessment schedules and any general information that is relevant to your course.
· There will be an NCEA notice board in your classroom. It will contain ongoing information relating to your course.
· On enrolling in the school, you will have sighted the WESTLAKE GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL booklet containing information relating to school policies and procedures. This booklet will tell you about Achievement Standards and the awards, as well as appeals, extensions, and attendance.
Students will work with a set topic for the year: The topic is ‘POP wardrobe’. There are 3 Achievement Standards during the year, approx. 50% internal and 50% external assessment:
1.2 worth 4 credits (internal) – due 23 April 9AM
1.3 worth 6 credits (internal) – due 2 July 9AM
1.4 worth 12 credits (external) – due 15th October 9AM
NB: As these are long standards with a number of tasks within each standard, you will be required to submit tasks on completion for Formative Assessment. The deadlines for these will be set by your teacher and may incorporate written and verbal feedback so you can make further improvements.
In Visual Arts Level 1 there will be no reassessment for the internal standards of 1.2 and 1.3. The external standard 1.4 will be assessed in Term 4, Week 1. It will be moderated later in Term 4. The 1.4 standard is the pre-requisite for entering into Level 2 Visual Art.
It is important that you file all work in your A3 clear file as you complete it. Make sure that every piece is clearly named with the date on it. File your work in the order of completion. Work for Assessment Standard 1.4 will be filed in your clear file until you make up your portfolio in Term 3. Then this work will be re-ordered onto your 2x A1 board folio.
ATTENDANCE:
You are required to attend all classes and participate fully in the learning programme for the Visual Arts course. Your attendance is required to verify the authenticity of your work. You will be notified if your attendance is causing concern and preventing you from achieving to the required standard.
Meeting deadlines:
This is a year when you are going to have to be very well organised and make sure that all work is completed on time to meet the required submission dates.
If you are unwell over an assessment deadline you must present your teacher with a medical certificate that covers you for that date, or get a family member/friend to drop it in to the front office. If you do not present a medical certificate or have not been awarded an extension, you are not able to gain Achievement.
EXTENSIONS:
Assessments handed in late will not be accepted unless an extension has been granted. All extensions must be made by written application on the appropriate form to the HOD via the class teacher responsible for that assessment. Extensions are unlikely to be granted where significant time has been given for completion of the assessment. Arrangement for all extensions should be made at least 48 hours before the due date of the assessment.
APPEALS:
When marked work is returned, you will sign an assessment cover sheet to indicate acceptance of the grade or request a re-consideration. The request will need to be submitted on the appropriate form. You will have 5 school days from the date of the return of your assessment to appeal. In the appeal you will need to make a written submission stating the grounds upon which you believe the appeal to be justified. The assessment along with the written submission will be given to the class teacher who will (in consultation with a subject review team) ensure that the appeal is addressed.
